Slaves Captured

It's no secret: Dark Eldar love to capture and enslave others. There are the obvious benefits, such as labor, sex toys, guinea pigs, fighters for the arenas, bartering, etc. There are other reasons the Dark Eldar are obsessed with slaves. It is also rumored that they eat souls. This is no rumor. Souls are the most valuable currency to the Dark Eldar. For starters, consuming souls produces the most potent euphoria and sense of power, so it is a narcotic without peer. Additionally, it increases the power and vitality of an Eldar and keeps them functionally immortal, so they can stave off...the One who Thirsts.

Thus, there is a definite and even desperate method to the madness in the lifestyles that Dark Eldar indulge in. Emotions are literally energy in motion that can be consumed or at least felt empathically by all creatures on one level or another. It is literally a fuel when you think about it. Therefore, strong emotions and passions literally add flavor to a soul. Pain and suffering are quite frankly the easiest "fuels" to bring about no matter how unique a given being is. Therefore, it makes logical sense to harness pain and misery. When the soul is eventually consumed, it is literally rich in flavor (compare filet mignon to a standard meat loaf...which is more desirable?)

As already mentioned, the Dark Eldar must stave off the One who Thirsts, who is none other than Slaanesh. With no rituals and no spirit stones, how is it possible for the Dark Eldar to avoid their ultimate fate? One simple, unscientific method is to devour the souls of other fallen Dark Eldar. Slaanesh can't consume that which has already been consumed. It's the ultimate way of living vicariously through someone else.

It is already known that Commoragh is somewhere in the webway (location classified). In the beginning, the Dark Eldar fled to the webway in order to avoid being soulsucked by Slaanesh. The strategy was brilliant, but The One Who Thirsts would not be so easily denied. He/She is still connected to them, even if the connection is weak. Slaanesh can still drain them, but in a slower manner. With this in mind, the Dark Eldar rejuvenate themselves by consuming other souls in order to keep their souls from withering away. As one can see, the Dark Eldar must consume souls if they want to survive, and when they consume a soul they want it to be as rich [with pain and suffering] as possible in order to sate the thirst of Slaanesh better. There is more to the Dark Eldar than mere hubris.

The Jade Emperor likes to keep at least one being from each genus/species of each race alive indefinitely as a trophy. The following is a list of that which he has captured for his Cosmic Zoo so far...
